Summer Programme

The outings in June are as follows :

Tuesday 3 June Askham Bog Steve Gater
We will leave Abbey Road at 9.30 am to drive for an hour to Askham Bog.
The visit should last until lunchtime when a packed lunch may be enjoyed on site and there is an opportunity to look around more by ourselves before heading back to Darlington.
There are no toilets.
Footpaths and boardwalks are on the level and easy to walk along.

Saturday 7 June Marfield Wetlands Sue Weston
A lovely Nature reserve near Masham.
We meet at 10am as usual at Abbey Road Playing Fields with a packed lunch and suitable clothing/footwear for the weather. There is plenty of parking at the site and there are seats around the site too – we had a packed lunch at a viewing point. I would suggest a stop in Masham at the Public Toilets.

Tuesday 10 June Ashcroft Grounds John Turner
Meeting at Abbey Road at 2pm.
This is also a change to the programme – the 5 Arch Bridge outing is now cancelled and we will be visiting Ashcroft House grounds with John Turner as our guide and there will be afternoon tea available.

Sunday 15 June Saltburn Carole Sobkowiak
Meet at Abbey Road 10-00 am
This is a joint meeting with Cleveland Naturalists and it has been chosen specially to have the expertise of Jo Scott to look at the rock pools. Please bring a picnic lunch or alternatively there is a cafe.

Tuesday 17 June Maidendale Nature Reserve Karyn Anwyl
Meet at Abbey Road 7pm.
A very popular fishing resource which is home to important rare species including great crested newts and the emperor dragon fly.

Saturday 21 June Scorton Lakes Carole Sobkowiak
Meet at Abbey Road 10-00 am
The purpose of this visit is to look at the area that has been designated for the building of a holiday village and large shop. One of the residents at Scorton will be showing us round. We will end with tea in one of the pubs on the village green.

Tuesday 24 June Indoor Meeting Ingleton Village Hall
Meet at Abbey Road 7pm.

Saturday 28 June Seata Quarry Wensleydale Derek Risbey
Meet at Abbey Road 10-00 am
This is a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve.
With over 100 plant species flowering in this small former stone quarry in the Dales, including four species of orchid, a spring or summer visit is a must for wildflower enthusiasts.
