High Coniscliffe

Brian Wood 22 April

Nine club members left Abbey Road at 7pm and journeyed to High
Coniscliffe where we met up with Fal Sarker who had an earlier start.
Due to the prolonged fine weather the path was dry and comfortable to
walk on, the weather was perfect for an evening walk.
We headed down the track to the riverside path then walked for about
3/4 mile, there was not much in the way of plants in flower tho plenty of
interest for the botanists. Fal recorded a good number of dandelions and
found sweet cicely in flower. Singing birds were aplenty with blackcap
quite noticeable also chiffchaff and willow warbler. The Merlin bird app is
now well used and is very useful tho we tend to report birds that we can
neither hear nor see, around 15 species were recorded. Thanks to Fal
Sarker for recording a substantial list of plants including the dandelions
and changing forget me not. The walk ended with a stunning sunset also
refreshments at the Spotted Dog.
