Most mammals are difficult to see, outings aimed at seeing them are difficult to plan, so we normally rely upon incidental and accidental records collected during other outings.
We took part in the Durham Wildlife Trust Otter (Lutra lutra) survey to establish their return to local rivers. This survey was based upon finding sign (e.g. spraint and seals or footprints by the river)
The club owns a number of Longworth traps which have been used by licensed (shrew) members. They have been used at a number of sites to establish the small mammals present. This includes use in the Yellow-necked Mouse (Apodemus flavicolis) survey
